2015-09-13: Peterson Pry Bar and deep hook I find this lock exceptionally challenging. You can get a huge false set on the first pin by raising it just a bit. The second pin behind it must be raised a whole bunch which can be really hard to do once the first pin is set. The problem is keeping the pin #2 set when trying to set pins #3 and #4. Every time I tried to set #3 or #4 pin #2 would drop and every time I tried to set pin #2 pins #3 and #4 would drop. I eventually was able to extremely carefully set #2 last without dropping #3 or #4 but to do it I needed a really deep pick and I had to wiggle the pick back and forth to get the pin past the catch without releasing the tension too much that pins #3 and #4 would drop. |

2015-09-09: Flat tension wrench and very thin shallow hook. I used a flat tension wrench because the standard ones were binding the cylinder and top of the lock doesn't have enough room to fit the Peterson Pry Bar comfortably. The trick to this lock is that the front pin (#1) must be raised all the way to the top to get a good false set going. The second pin (#2) right behind it must stay almost all the way at the bottom of the lock and it will bind when #1 is set. You have to carefully squeeze the hook underneath pin #2 without letting it lift too much. If it lifts too much you won't be able to get the lock open. With the shallow hook under #2 you have to very carefully lift pins #3 and #4 without accidentally also lifting #2. The binding order isn't #1, #2, then #3 / #4 but there is really no way to avoid setting pin #2 when you get the pick under it to reach #3 and #4 so you have to be very careful about not turning the cylinder too much or you won't be able to lift #3 and #4 with #1 and #2 set. It isn't that hard once you know how sensitive #2 is. I've picked it three times easily using this trick. |

2015-10-12: Peterson Pry Bar and a combination of the Peterson Gem and a shallow hook The internals on this lock are really smooth so it can be hard to feel things set and quite hard to feel counter-rotation of the spool pins. Using the gem, I got most pins to the point where they felt set but didn't get much cylinder rotation. I assume at least one pin was over set. At this point, I let up a bit on the tension and dragged the gem over the pins from the back to the front once to hopefully let an over set pin release. Shortly after this I got a large false set and all the pins felt like they couldn't budge anymore. I switched to a shallow hook with a flat surface and let up on the tension a bit until I felt the last or second to last (near the back) move. Lifting it a tiny bit released the cylinder and it opened right up. |

Green: 2015-09-12: Peterson Pry Bar and standard thin Peterson hook. I got a huge false set on pin #3 or #4. After that the front pins were pushed into place nearly immediately and pin #5 gave good counter-rotation. I eased up on the tension and pushed #5 into place and the lock opened. Whole pick took less than 10 seconds. On my second attempt I got the huge false set again but the front pins took a bit more work to get into place. I finished with #5 again and opened it again. Unfortunately I let the cylinder turn over without the key in it and a bunch of pins fell into the inside of the lock's case. Now it rattle and the key won't open it. |

2015-09-24: Peterson Pry Bar and medium hook This lock doesn't have a spring and almost all of the pins are spool pins. When you get a false set it's really easy to turn the cylinder so much that the spool pins don't give you any counter-rotation. A, B, C, D, E, F: 2015-09-26: Peterson Pry Bar and thick medium hook Very high tension seems to be required to feel when the pins set. Binding order can be hard to find but once you've set the first pin without first oversetting another pin, the rest are super simple and click right into place as you push them, provided you're using enough tension. Use medium-to-high tension for the first pin and then very high for the remaining 3. These locks teach you very bad tension habits. |
